Novelty Ratio

This is another subjective metric often used in retrieval systems. As opposed to the Coverage Ratio which tells us from the documents known by a user, how many our systems retrieved.

The novelty ratio specifically cares about from those relevant documents retrieved by our system, how many did the user NOT know.

Basically, how informative our system was. It is computed as follows:

Novelty Ratio=|relevant documents unknown to user||relevant documents retrieved by system|
